Board of Zoning Appeals · Meeting of July 28, 2021

NY BROOKHAVEN — The Brookhaven Board of Zoning Appeals approved zoning variances and property divisions for dozens of residential and commercial projects on Wednesday. Major approvals included variances for the Maleki Living Trust property on Middle Island Boulevard, subject to removal of heat sources from detached structures and covenant filings within 180 days, with board members Paul DeChance, Jim Wisdom, and Howard Bergson voting in favor while Rick Cunha recused himself. The afternoon session processed a wave of residential variances across town neighborhoods, most approved unanimously with standard conditions for tree preservation and erosion control.

The board approved an appeal by Danny Hebberd of a historic district committee denial regarding a proposed garage design in Center Moriches, voting 3-1 to override the committee's recommendations on roof style and siding materials.
