Board of Zoning Appeals approves dance studio, grants residential variances

NY BROOKHAVEN — The Brookhaven Board of Zoning Appeals granted a dance studio special permit and approved variances for more than two dozen residential and commercial properties at its January 21 meeting. Chairman Howard Bergson and board members unanimously approved Setauket 140 LLC's dance studio with a $2,615 penalty fee; cleared signage height variances for National Grid in Medford and R & P Mall in Stony Brook; and granted Brandon Defiore clearing-limit relief for his East Moriches property allowing 54 percent clearing. The board approved variances for residential improvements including accessory apartments, pool setbacks, additions, and gazebos, adopted findings in four prior cases, and postponed multiple complex applications to February hearings.
