NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board adopts 2021 preliminary budget within the state's 1.56 percent property tax cap. The unanimous approval came despite a 20 percent reduction in state aid, zero federal aid for general operations, and pandemic-driven declines in landfill and building permit revenues. Supervisor Edward P.
Romaine and six council members emphasized that staying within the cap required difficult spending prioritization while maintaining basic services to residents. In related action, the board codified the Sewer Use ordinance into the Town code and ordered demolition of three unsafe properties in Bellport, Mastic, and Coram, with the Mastic property's timeline accelerated due to public safety hazards.
