NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Board cuts capital spending amid COVID-19 revenue decline. The Town Board unanimously approved amendments to the 2020 capital budget authorizing capital project deferrals and reductions in response to the coronavirus pandemic, with Councilman Daniel Panico noting the Board had already cut over six million dollars from the operating budget. The Board determined that two properties, 42 Westwood Drive in Shirley and 216 Washington Drive in Mastic Beach, are unsafe and require demolition, with four additional unsafe property hearings adjourned to August 27 due to court delays in filing required notices.
The Board enacted a new expeditor registration law establishing penalties for unlicensed expeditors and accepted substantial amendments to the town's consolidated plan to receive special CARES Act federal funding.
