Brookhaven Town Board advances data center moratorium

NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board votes unanimously to hold July 16 public hearing on data center moratorium. The May 28 meeting produced Introductory Local Law #11 of 2026, which would establish a moratorium and new regulatory framework in Chapter 17 of the town code. Approximately 25 residents spoke against the proposal, citing environmental and zoning concerns.
The board approved site plans with variances for Port Jefferson Medical Office, Bicycle Path Medical Office, and U-Haul @ Medford after SEQRA environmental review. Environmental conservation approvals included a contract with GEI Consultants for Swan River Preserve invasive plant removal, matching funds for Pattersquash Creek restoration through the Save the Great South Bay Grant, and an ecological restoration contract with Ramboll Americas for Peconic-Huntington Marsh.
