NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board designated four residential properties as unsafe and ordered owners to demolish them within 30 days or face Town demolition. The properties, at 112 Chanel Drive East in Shirley, 14 Baldwin Road in Sound Beach, 117 Pine Road in Mastic Beach, and 106 Parkside Avenue in Miller Place, all suffered severe structural deterioration including roof damage, rotted siding, mold, and public safety hazards. In a split vote of 6 to 1, with Councilwoman Cartright opposing, the board adopted a positive SEQRA declaration to move forward with environmental review of a proposed Regional Recovery and Recycling Facility at the town's Yaphank landfill, though the board also established an ad-hoc committee to study solid waste disposal alternatives.
The board approved property acquisitions for open space and drainage purposes, including purchasing land on Union Avenue in Patchogue to preserve open space following advocacy by community group FACE.
