Town Board · Meeting of July 16, 2020

NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board unanimously approved a shellfish management program for Bellport Bay and cleared the way for a 96-unit multifamily residential development in Middle Island. The board established a designated management area in Bellport Bay to protect oyster restoration efforts from harvesting, following testimony from environmental advocates supporting the initiative. The Middle Island Apartments project will contribute 50,000 dollars to a community enhancement fund, construct roadway improvements worth approximately 300,000 dollars, and restore 6.2 acres of wetlands.

The board also assessed nearly 60,000 dollars in administrative and demolition costs for 17 unsafe properties across the town and approved amendments to the janitorial services contract to reflect Department of Labor prevailing wage increases.
