Brookhaven Town Board authorizes $45.9 million in sewer bonds

Town Board · Meeting of August 28, 2025

NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board unanimously authorized $45.9 million in bonded debt for sewer infrastructure, including $43 million for the Mastic Beach Sewer District and $2.965 million for Sewer District No. 2 leaching pool expansion. The sewer district, identified as essential to enable redevelopment, encompasses a six-acre treatment plant site on former Links golf course property and extends to areas near William Floyd High School. During an extended public hearing on the proposed Mastic Beach Neighborhood Road Revitalization, residents offered mixed views on a conceptual plan featuring 550 apartments, 78 town homes, and 134,000 square feet of commercial space, with concerns centered on traffic and existing public safety issues.

Supervisor Panico emphasized the revitalization as "the last chance" for the area's future, citing Patchogue's successful transformation. Formal adoption of the revitalization plan was adjourned to an uncertain date pending resolution of public comments.
