NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven Town Board approves multifamily zoning amendments and pandemic relief program. Local Law 6, unanimously passed with SEQRA negative declaration, expands density-bonus alternatives by allowing developers to acquire environmentally sensitive land in lieu of Pine Barrens credits, opening opportunities across all six districts instead of just farm protection areas. The board authorized an Emergency Microenterprise Business Relief Grant Program with 400,000 dollars in ten-thousand-dollar awards on first-come basis for small businesses hit by coronavirus shutdown.
Supervisor Edward P. Romaine reported the grants join a two-point-nine-million-dollar budget reduction combining vacancy savings, overtime cuts, and early retirements. Additionally, the board approved a 503,100-dollar bond issuance for Stony Brook Creek stormwater infrastructure and set July 16 public hearing dates for three McDonald's zoning applications and one 7-Eleven application.
