Board of Zoning Appeals · Meeting of November 29, 2023

NY BROOKHAVEN — Brookhaven zoning board approves 24 property variances in single session. The Board of Zoning Appeals granted relief for residential and commercial projects including walk-in freezer at Mastic Seafood, multiple dwelling additions, and pool structures, with many approvals carrying covenants filed with the Suffolk County Clerk. Patrick O'Shaughnessy's floating home special permit was renewed for three years and Irving Lilie received approval for residence additions subject to wetlands requirements.

The board postponed approximately 15 subdivision applications to December 13 and deferred Randy and Maggie Maria's chicken coop variance to January 10. The board denied Ivan Castro's request to lift a 1986 no-further-subdivision covenant, voting four to deny, two to grant, with one abstention.
