Board of Zoning Appeals · Meeting of September 6, 2023

NY BROOKHAVEN — The Brookhaven Board of Zoning Appeals granted zoning variances for the majority of residential property modifications at its September 6 hearing, with most approvals unanimous. Chairman Howard Bergson and the seven-member board reviewed 30 regular agenda items plus several holdovers, approving variances for pools, decks, sheds, garage additions, and residence expansions that did not meet municipal setback and yard requirements. A notable conditional approval for James and Elisa Ford's Blue Point property permitted a carport, pool, and shed but denied a requested front-yard garbage bin and required protective covenants filed with the Suffolk County Clerk within 180 days.

The Board postponed three applications to October 4 and extended two prior variance grants for an additional six months each.
